April is an exciting time for black film nerds here in Brooklyn becauuuuuuuuuse…..
It’s ‘New Voices in Black Cinema’ time!!!!
For the last seven years, I’ve been giving BAM all of my money and free time for a week of film made by new, fresh talent. It was here that I deepened my relationship with ancestral spirituality thanks to “United States of Hoodoo“. It’s also the same place I fell in love with John Boyega as he played a single father doing his very best in “Imperial Dreams“.
What crushes me each year, however, is that I’m always the youngest person and mostly, the only black person in the theater during this festival. The activists of BlackTwitter have succeeded in lying to the world that there is a shortage of black film and filmmakers. However, the iSo14Below Film Club is here to let ya’ll all know that the devil is lie and black Jesus is still on the throne! We’ve been going for four months now and about to go into overdrive this summer. If you’re down to ride, join us for the first stop in high season for black film with a screening of “White Colour Black”.
I have 15 tickets up for grabs at a discounted $10 a pop. RSVP here, so I know who to be chasing for ticket money. Keep your eyes glued to the event group as my partners at BAM and I are putting together a cute little pre-game!
