Wake me up when September ends. Yeesh!
I’ve been back from LA for a few weeks now and have been quiet aggy about the need for coats. Luckily, September was an epic month for music, so all of the bodyrollin’ and boppin’ has been keeping me warm. Check out the tunes that ushered me back to the East Coast.
Travis Scott x Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight
Travis Scott is the one. Debate your mother.
Local Natives x Sunlit Youth
It’s amazing to watch artists grow with every album and I can’t think of anyone who has mad a bigger leap than Local Natives. This third album has truly separated them from the pack of indie rockers into something legendary.
Solange x A Seat At The Table
I reeeeeeeally have to stop letting #Woke people lie to me. According to Twitter, ASATT was this never heard before audio from shea butter and kente cloth. I avoided the project for an entire week because I can’t with uplifting/deep/super pro-black music. My baby cousin (who’s my life twin) played it in her apartment one day and maaaaaaan listen….ASATT is jams on jams on jams!! A straight through listen of Solange being who’s she been ever since I pressed play on “Solo Star” 15 years ago.
Banks x The Alter
As a Banks day one, I’m soooooooooooooo happy for the woman and artist she’s become. The first go round, she played the damel in distress. On “The Alter” mama is taking up for herself and letting the world know she a bad muhf*gga.
JoJo x Mad Love
SING! SING JOJO SIIIIIIIING!!!! That’s literally all there is to say. I love this woman and I can’t wait for her new album to drop!
Tinashe x Company
It’s hard out here for a Tinashe fan, but we’re still here holding on. We don’t know when this album is coming and the teaser tracks have been a bit of a dub, but we’re still here tryna hold on. “Company” is the closest will get to the heat that was “Party Favors”, so I’ll take it!
In 2016, music is being thrown at you at a constant pace and it’s crazy hard to get to it all. I usually make time, but September was just tew murch! I still need to give all of these projects a hard listen and you should too! Let me know your favesssss.
