I love bodyrolling.
I love parks.
I love Brooklyn.
Which is why I’m sooooooo excited to tell ya’ll about Brooklyn’s MLK Concert Series!
For anyone that knows me IRL, they know that one of my favorite things to do in the world is go to grown folk R&B concerts with my mom. Ever since moving to Brooklyn in 2007, I’ve been going home to Philly on Thursdays to catch these insane concerts that have featured everyone from Fantasia to Mint Condition to Brian McKnight. Nothing is better than some goodT singing and being surrounded by thousands of old black people grinding on each other like teens at a basement party.
Brooklyn has its own version of this, albiet not as rawkus, that I’ve been going to for the last few years thanks to Brooklyn’s previous borough president, Marty Mawkowitz. I really miss that dude and his white blazers, but our current pres Eric Adams picked up the torch and the MLK Concert Series in Wingate Park is back (for free) with a vengance!
LOOK AT THIS LINE-UP!
July 25 – Tank ft. Vivian Green
Aug 1 – Reggae Night w/ Konshens and Etana
Aug 8 – Erica Campbell (from Mary Mary)
The concert themselves start at 7:30pm, BUT the whole hood comes out, so get there by 6:30 at the latest! There is seating, but ya’ll know old black women will have snatched those up by 5:30. Bring your own or prep to stand. Between us, booze isn’t allowed, but nutcrackers always find their way in. If you’re looking for me, I’ll be p*ssy poppin on a handstand when Tank does “Relationship Goals”: and the exact same thing when Erica does “I Luhh God”.
Judge your mother!
See you then!
