Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name and they’re always glad you came, you feel me?
That place is for sure, Bed-Stuy’s Bed-Vyne Brew. Having opened in 2013, Brew has turned into the popular watering hole for new neighbors (code: the white neighbors) during the day and the seemingly always bronzy (even in winter) and beautiful boheme residents of my neighborhood at nightfall.
Carrying exclusively beer and wine, the Brew is perfectly no frills, but by no means a shitty dive where you can usually find me. The decor is completely wooden, however it doesn’t fall victim to that cheesy reclaimed wood trend sweeping the borough. It feels masculine in a way that makes women’s sensuality shine, ya’know what I mean?
The beer and wine list (they now sell growlers too hooray!) changes frequently and its full of the good stuff. If Coronas and Guinness is your thing, go to Brew to step your palette up as they don’t serve any of the usual bar fare. They do an awesome job sourcing beers from all over and the perfect spot for beer snobs like me. I’m no sommelier, so wine is wine is wine to me, but everyone is obsessed over the Lambrusco. Another very important note, this ain’t no obnoxious wine bar on the UES. The bartenders give you a nice, full glass of wine, not the 1/3 glass full mess they do in Manhattan. Fill my sh*t up, ya feel me?!?!
Every night is a good night to slide through the Brew, but Motown Mondays, where my homie Tap 10 spins, is always a chill vibe. Fridays and Saturdays are by far the best for dancing, especially when my girl Nina Azucar has her residency. Sundays are perfect for a post-brunch glass on the porch. It’s good tanning opportunities and people watching. On really good nights, Shrimpy, the woman behind the popular, yet elusive, seafood truck on wheels rolls through.
If skraight up booze is more your twist of beer + wine, the good people behind Brew also have Bed-Vyne Cocktail just a few blocks away. The space is really grown’n’sexy inside and they have a really nice patio in the back. They too have great nightly events, including food from The Jerk Man (a Bed-Stuy legend) and cute day parties.
For anyone that is intent on buying Black, you’re in luck because the Bed-Vyne brand is indeed black-owned. Besides drinking your life away at their establishments, BV has a liq store attached to the Brew that carries wine, including their own label (red, white, rosé) and some really good fancy shmancy hard stuff like whiskey.
Brew is perfect for date nights (I bring all my Tinder guys here) or for a pow wow with your mains. Make this a regular destination and you’ll never forget it. See you on the porch!
