We are halfway through the year 2016 and I’m still being worthless. What about ya’ll???
I may be off my diet, not working out, and being anti-adulting, but at least my iTunes library looking like a dimepiece! May’s travel music was so testosterone heavy, I could barely handle. Literally, four of the 22 men I’d donate my womb to dropped albums within these 31 days. That has to be a record! Let’s dive into the tunes that kept my zen as I zipped around NYC during the month of May.
Kaytranada x 99.9%
I love Montreal for two reasons – it forces me to practice my French and it’s the hometown of BabyFahvuh 2016-2017 pageant winner, Kaytranada. This album is a straight through listen with no lulls. From Karreim Riggans to Craig David (he’s still alive and looking like yes), Kay brought all the heavy hitters out to play! “99.9%” is the perfect addition to my “Summer With My IBM” Spotify playlist!
Ro James x ELDORADO
Man LISTEN! LIIIIISTENNNNN!!!! Ro James is the king of male R&B of 2016. Don’t argue or I will gladly turn my location on. If you need some receipts to back up my claim, press play on ELDORADO and check out our interview for Myspace!
James Blake x The Colour in Anything
The crowned king of musical doom and gloom is back to ruin our summer and I’m so happy about it! James opens the album with the line “I can’t believe this, you don’t wanna see me…” -combusts into tears- It literally rained the day the album dropped and continued to do so for two weeks. I didn’t think it was possible to top his last album “Overgrown”, but he knocked this one out of the park. James did a last minute show a few days after the album release and I was a big ball of stress the entire time.
Chance the Rapper x Coloring Book
The universe has no chill because why on earth would Chance and James drop the same damn day?! I could ramble on about how Chance is the best human being ever, but you can also just read my full album review on The Lunch Bx!
Corine Bailey Rae x The Heart Speaks in Whispers
Historically, I’ve never been a Corrine kind of girl, but her linking up with Paris Strother from KING has me reconsidering. I still need to really sit with the album, but after playing the lead single “Green Aphrodesiac” to death and giving the album two spins, I’m invested.
Smashing Hearts x Bright Lights
I’m obsessed with these kids’ music. They are 6 and 0 with the surprise drop of “Bright Lights”. If you don’t have their 2015 EP “Cosmic”, gone git that thang! Perfect summer tunes. Keep it locked for my interview with them tooooo!
Lastlyyyyyy……posting this Rihanna performance of “Love on the Brain” from the Billboard Awards in May because I’m a stan and this is my blog so I can do what I want!
