april has been an amaaaaaazing month for music! i’ve legit found some songs that will be the soundtrack to the rest of this year. dive into the best of april belowwwwww.
obenewa x he
saw a pic of obenewa on tumblr with no context. was obsessed with her give, so i did the google images search thing (thanks for the put on “catfish”) and landed on her soundcloud page. i can-not::clap:: stop::clap::listening::clap::
tiffany evans x red wine
we were all rooting for tiffany evans when she was bucking with ciara in the ‘promise ring’ video and then she disappeared. well, she’s back and super grown on “red wine”.
april + vista x lanterns
this twosome is currently rocking the ‘you oughta know’ crown this month. you can read all my rambling here.
the-dream x crown
terius nash is my all. nothing else to say really.
trendsetter sense ft monica, jeezy, yo gotti x do me like that
monica is dropping a new album and she’s on this new mixtape from my fellow philly jawn and clark atlanta alum dj sense. wholetime, i started weeping as soon as jeezy started rapping. i love him so much. i know mo is a classy wife and mom now, but i love when murda mo comes out to play.
lianne la havas x unstoppable
bae and her amazing thighs are dropping an album this year. the first single is herrrrre!
rihanna x james joint
i’m really sick of waiting for #r8, but i can’t front like i haven’t been eating up every teaser she drops. “james joint” is a dope interlude and there’s been days when i’ve looped it upwards of 20 times, but it sounds wayyyyyyyy too much like the internet for them to not get credit in the album credit notes.
tamia x sandwich and a soda
this song dropped maybe a month ago, but the video is brand spanking new! if this is what 40+ looks like….sign me all the way up!
vivian green x get right back to my baby
i’ve loved viv since i was 17 years old. she’s incredibly underrated and i’m so geeked that she’s still blessing us with good music. “get right back to my baby” is gonna be perfect for summer15!
kehlani x you should be here
i’ve been obsessed with kehlani’s duet with bj the chicago kid, “down for you”, since it dropped last month. now her full mixtape (which runs more like an album) has been released and i’m really blown away. not gonna lie, i was expecting it to be jhene aiko-lite, who i’m still struggling to get into. but alas, “you should be here” fills the void amanda perez left when she dropped “angel” and went awol on us.
some mixtape standouts include “niggas” (which needs a remix with tink), “wanted”, and “the way” with chance the rapper. “the letter”, kehlani’s ode to her mom is poignant. “runnin” is my new feminist anthem. i’m a firm believer that songs with the same name carry the same vibration, so of course “be alright” slaps. i’ll def have “you should be here on loop all summer.
eryn allen kane
chance the rapper be-the f*ck-knowin’! get into this cogic track from a singer that’ll be on his new album “surf”
