my fave cultural center in nyc will be hosting exhibitions for both kehinde wiley and jean michel basquiat simultaneously in april + march!
can you handle????
wiley’s show “a new republic” has been running since february and basquiat’s “the unknown notebooks” opens tomorrow (april 3). after all of my campaigning, you all should be members of the brooklyn museum by now. however, if you’re still fighting destiny, you can view both shows at first saturday for the free. as always, first saturday is jam packed with goodies including a viewing of “the radiant child” and closing with my fave newcomers, lion babe.”
are wiley and basquiat hyped to the point of apathy? sure. are there a zillion other black artists we can be talking? of course, and we do. but who are we to deny black excellence? i’m sure i’ll be hitting the museum up a few times over the next two months to soak it all in. if i happen to bump into you, let’s go get chicken patties from little miss muffin’n’ her stuffin’ after, yeah?
