march was pretty quiet on newness (considering that people drop music nonstop now), but march 14th saw so many drops that it can only be considered a holy day in music.
first we got the (leaked) kendrick lamar album we’ve all been waiting for, “to pimp a butterfly”. we all agreed it’s a classic and every morning since then has started with “alright”.
then as if i’m still emotionally stable from her phenomenal debut album, tinashe drops a new mixtape, “amethyst”…
thennnnnn, jesus finally picked up the main line and brought amerie and rich harrison back together in the form of a new track “out loud”….
at this point my phone is about to explode thanks to the flood of texts about the day’s releases. then instagram starts going nuts as keri hilson and monica posted snippets of new music.
just the day before the mayhem of the 14th, newcomer kayla blackmon dropped “chills” and that was by no means a false advertisement.
jill scott teased new music when i saw her in concert a few months ago. she came through on her promise and outsang your faves on “you don’t know”.
teddy pinnedherassdown is back!!! new ep….new glory…
we’re still waiting for #r8, but rihanna fed the navy with the obnoxiously good, “bitch betta have my money”. yes, i cried watching the iheartradio performance. rihanna as lil kim? what’s better than that?!
rounding out the month, the kangs of r&b, jodeci, dropped the long awaited “the past, the present, the future”.
march 31st also saw the full drop of the much teased “i luh god” from mary mary’s erica campbell. they always know how to make the saints bop! ::swings weave at the pulpit::
outside of a few songs on her last album, i haven’t been on the janelle monae wave since “the audition”. i think i mayyyyy be back into the fold thanks to her new song “yoga”. i have a weakness for songs that give instructions on how to drop it to da flo’ and scruhhh da groun.
jeff bradshaw also dropped his “home” album today. it was a live recording and i obvi took the chinatown bus to philly to be there. i looked like this majority of the show, but nothing took me out like marsha ambrosious doing “i do, sincerely” and kim burrell covering musiq’s “love”. the internet is hating and none of these are floating around for me to drop them in. anywho…cop-dis-album-shawty! real singers and real musicians!
