this post is like 2 weeks late as per me thottin’ around east africa, but it is happening anyway because february was a great month for music! i already gushed about kendrick’s “blacker the berry”, so let’s get into the other february releases i can’t get enough of.
mya x love elevation
mya is officially the queen of valentine’s day. in 2014, she dropped “with love” featuring one of my fave songs in life, “space” and she came back for round two this year. “love elevation” picked up where her last ep left off. i love every song, but “on one” is my jam! listen to it below and purchase the entire ep on itunes.
tank x if you were mine
tank is one of my favorite voices (and songwriters) in music, so i’m always hype when he drops new music. this time, he released an ep full of covers that made you forget that they were sung by anyone else. all of the songs on the ep, save for one, was originally done by white artists, so i’m not sure if he was making a statement with this, but either way, i loooove “if you were mine. the entire ep can me heard on soundcloud for the free. get your prayer cloth ready once “end of time” drops.
raheem devaughn x love, sex, and passion
i featured the lead single from raheem’s new album, “when you love somebody” for last month’s beats, but the album finally dropped and it’s incredible! i haven’t stopped listening to it since it came out. i pretty much listen to it in full each time, but there are some standouts. “infiniti” is his prince moment. “terms of endearment” puts me in my feelings. “all i know”, makes me baptist sway. buy this album and join in with me because where two or three are gathered….
obey city x merlot sounds
my time in nyc has given me the opp to watch so many of my friends go after their dreams and surpass them like it’s nuffin’. the homie, obey city, happens to be one of those people. february saw the release of his new ep “merlot sounds”. obey city is a slow jam and bop king and this ep puts that all out on the table. “waterbed” with anthony flammia is the single and yeah…it’s a good one! cop the whole ep on itunes.
india shawn + james fauntleroy x more or less
james fauntleroy is probably my favorite writer from our generation. from his work with cocaine 80s to rihanna, due is a beast! this time, he’s teamed up with india shawn on a collab ep, “outer limits”. i haven’t taken the time to really get into india shawn, but i blindly follow fauntleroy. of the two singles released, “more or less” is my fave. def sounds like a brandy track from the “afrodesiac” era and that is a mayjah compliment. enjoy it below and listen to the full ep over at soundcloud.
passion pit x where the sky hangs
i lovelovelove passion pit. i’ve been a fan since their very first album and their latest “manners” kept me in their clutches. they are dropping a new album in april, but their first single is already here. “where the sky hangs” is classic passion pit. light, airy, and bop required.
alxndr london x gunshot
i tout myself as a virtual crate digger, finding dope new artists before they blow. however, since i started contributing to saint heron, i realized that i’m just barely cracking the surface of the epic newness flooding the internet. one such saint heron artist, alxndr london hit the scene just a month ago and he’s got me feenin’. get into is latest release, “gunshot”.
