there is nothing like a summer in brooklyn.
between dance africa and summerstage, you’re pretty set on epicness, but mocada’s “soul of brooklyn week” just ups the ante to otherwordly proportions. the museum of contemporary african diasporan arts has been an integral part of my time here in new york. from their art shows to block parties, mocada is one of the greatest celebrations of black excellence in the city. it always feels like home and their events attract the most beautiful people you have ever seen. the ‘soul of brooklyn’ fest will be celebrating its 5th year and they obviously plan to really turn up.
take a gander at the line up for the kickoff concert!
…and you guys thought i was joking when i said the west coast is taking over??? king, iman omari, moruf, norvis jr, and jus moni all on one stage and stas on the decks?! i may combust! this is an concert that you won’t want to miss. i know musiq soulchild is at summerstage that day also, but sometimes in life, you have to make tough decisions. this may be one of your toughest.
an easy decision, however, will be to support mocada by becoming a friend. donations can be made either one time in a lump sum (baaaalllin!) or with easy monthly payments for as low as $10! mocada has been gifting the borough with some incredible programming, so why not send them a “thanks for all you do boo” in the form of some ones? donations can be made here.
can’t wait to see you all throughout the entire ‘soul of brooklyn’ festival week!
