joni mitchell neverrrrr lied.
i was roaming around the city last week craving some comfort food and #bae suggested great ny noodletown. i wrote a pretty extensive post about chinatown, but i left noodletown out so it can fly solo. it is easily one of my fave restaurants in the city, so i gladly skipped on down there for dinner.
we get to the corner of bowery and canal and i start flipping out. where was noodletown?! a few buildings on the block had been knocked down and i’m spinning around looking for the noodletown sign. we started asking people to no avail. i start shaking. my eyes start welling up. i’m yelling about how much i hate new york….and then i walked to the next corner and found it.
great ny noodletown dooooes have great noodles, but people come for the duck. you can order everything from a whole duck to (my fave) duck and pineapple fried rice. they cart them by the tens freshly roasted past your table and it’s hard to not just yank one off and inhale it.
duck aside, the entire menu is worth writing home to mom about. i love their singapore mei fun and order pretty much every time i go. since i’m that terrible person that eats general tso outside of the confines of my hood, i order it here and it’s the best. fresh white breast meat and the best sauce i’ve ever tasted. i’ve legit taken my finger to the plate before. the noodle soups are obviously bomb as well.
you can never go wrong with anything you order here, unless congee or pork stomach porridge isn’t your jam. so head over, close your eyes and let your finger land on something (super cheap) and delicious. give your local chinese takeout a break and treat yourself. you deserve it!
