nyc has yet to warm up, so tea is still my best friend. i bought a couple sachets of tea when i was in istanbul, but as my exotic collection dwindled, i couldn’t go back to lipton, ya’know? insert the homie kareem. he invited me out to catch up and suggested we meet at into tea lounge.
yay tea! yay black owned tea shop!
the cafe is your usual clinton hill situation, but the warm owners behind the counter give it a nice, homey feel. the layout is spacious and airy so you can really relax. they offer tons of pastries, yummy oatmeal, sandwiches, and soup. food is great, but people obviously come to into tea lounge for…the tea.
ok…so…there are zillions of tea options that will suit every palette. i’m a rooibos girl, so the vanilla rooibos is my favorite. if you want to try a bunch of flavors (as you should), i suggest ordering a single cup. if your heart is set on one flavor, go all out and order a pot. it will render about 3-4 cups.
between the music, tea, and couches, getting out of this place in under two hours is a miracle. it’s the perfect place to go when you need a break from the hustlebustle of the city. i should also mention that it’s a block away from a really good and really massive salvation army thrift shop. win-wins all around!
before the temps start creeping up to hell, get yourself over to into tea lounge at 163 gates avenue! for other black-owned business around brooklyn, be sure to download the around the way app. kuumba guys, kuumba!
*editor’s note: be sure to check out kareem’s site. it’s super inspiring, without the cheese. if you need a kick in the butt to get you started on that passion project you’ve been procrastinating on , you. need. this. site!
