i wrote about diversity over at snl 2 weeks ago and wound up at a comedy show on tuesday in the same row as sasheer zamata, the new black comic. oh the irony!
thanks to comicview, i’ve always been terrified about going to comedy shows because i was not trying to get ragged on by comics, but i left this one with my stomach in stitches instead of my self-esteem. baby steps! with jokes about homophobic grandmothers to losing virginities (and a blue house) during hurricane sandy and blacks stealing purses vs whites stealing housing, i was doubled over. my lifetime achievement award that night went to j.f. harris. besides his amazing hair, the jokes were beyond hilarious. i was legit inconsolable at one point. safe to say, i’ll be howling at his shows in the future…as long as they’re below 14th street, because…ya’know.
the star of the night however was charla lauriston and her brilliant series “clench and release”. i’ve always been partial to lady comics, because vagina power, but charla is def the one to watch for. don’t believe me? check the first episode.
unless you’re a miserable prick, you loved the clip and are hungry for more. don’t say i’ve never done anything for you guys… voila!
