the last three years have been awesome for the indie scene. i found myself at the movies more than i had in my entire life, but that $13 a viewing situation was getting costly. last year, i buckled down and bought a membership to the brooklyn academy of music and it has been the best money spent in a while. last night, i went to see “nebraska” with my nebraskan boyfriend. we didn’t watch the trailer, so we had no idea what the movie was even about. i assumed a lot of cows and hay, but it shockingly had an awesome story!
i’m not gonna give you guys the blow by blow, because that would make me a douche. however, i will say that it is everything you love about heartland america family films minus all of the cheesiness, but just enough cheese to possibly bring a beyonce tear to your eye. will forte shook off his snl persona for a flawless performance. i love when the elderly play grumpy geriatrics in films. it was shot completely in black and white which is always a yes. thanks to “getting on“, june quibb, who plays the mother in “nebraska”, has become my fave person on earth at this point. i can go on and on about the movie, but i think you guys get the point…see it!
besides bam, “nebraska” can be viewed at williamsburg cinemas ($8 tix on tuesday and thursday) and angelika film center.
k. i’m going back to my comforter to enjoy funemployment in the midst of a snowshower. be safe out there kiddies!
